Lortades

Lortads syrup is an anti-allergy medication that belongs to the antihistamine drug class. This medication helps control allergic reactions and their symptoms without causing drowsiness. Lortads syrup relieves symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis and inflammation of the nasal passages due to allergies in adults, adolescents, and children aged one year and older.

These symptoms include sneezing, runny or itchy nose, itchy palate, and redness, itching, or watery eyes.

Before taking the medication, inform your doctor or pharmacist about the following:

  • Presence of other medical conditions

Indications

Dosage and Proper Use of Lortads

The exact dosage of any medication is determined by a doctor, but generally, it is as follows:

  • Children 1 to 5 years: Recommended dose is 2.5 mL (equivalent to one-quarter of the measuring cup), once daily.

  • Children and adolescents 5 to 11 years: Recommended dose is 5 mL (equivalent to half of the measuring cup), once daily.

  • Adolescents over 11 years and adults: Recommended dose is 10 mL (equivalent to a full measuring cup), once daily.

If a dose is missed
 Take the missed dose as soon as possible on the same day and continue with the next doses as usual. Do not double the dose.

Do not stop taking the medication without consulting your doctor.

Wash the measuring cup before and after each use, and tightly close the bottle cap.
Use only the measuring cup provided in the package to measure the medication.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking this medication.

Warnings

Contraindications of Lortads

  • History of allergy to desloratadine, loratadine, or any of the components of this medication.

  • This medication is not to be used in children under one year of age.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Patients with a history of sugar intolerance or inability to digest/absorb fructose or galactose should not use this medication.

  • In children and adolescents with a history of seizures, or a family history of seizures, this medication should be used with caution.

  • This medication rarely causes drowsiness; before driving or operating machinery that requires full alertness, make sure you understand how your body reacts to it.

  • In cases of impaired kidney function, inform your doctor before using this medication.

Drug Interactions

  • Before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you are using ketoconazole, azithromycin, fluoxetine, or erythromycin.

Side Effects

Like any medication, Lortads may cause some unwanted side effects alongside its therapeutic effects, although not all side effects occur in every individual. Common side effects of Lortads include:

  • Children under 2 years: Diarrhea, fever, insomnia

  • Adults: Fatigue, dry mouth, headache

Storage Conditions

  • Store the medication at a temperature below 30°C, away from light and moisture, and keep it in its original packaging.

  • Keep out of reach of children.

  • Do not use or store expired medication.

  • 120 mL glass bottle (containing 2.5 mg of the active ingredient desloratadine per 5 mL of syrup)

  • Each box contains a 120 mL glass bottle, a 10 mL measuring cup, and an instruction leaflet
