Seretol

Improving Asthma in Children with Seritol

Seretol is a combination inhalation therapy containing Salmeterol (as xinafoate) and Fluticasone propionate. It works by keeping airways open to facilitate airflow, making breathing easier. Salmeterol is a long-acting bronchodilator that provides relief for up to 12 hours, while Fluticasone propionate, a corticosteroid, reduces inflammation and swelling in the lungs. Seritol is prescribed to prevent respiratory issues, including:

  • Asthma
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

The 50/250 dose of Seretol also reduces the frequency of COPD exacerbations. Daily use, as directed by your doctor, ensures optimal efficacy. Seretol helps prevent wheezing and shortness of breath but is not suitable for relieving acute asthma attacks; a fast-acting rescue inhaler should be used in such cases.

Warnings and precautions

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Seritol if you:

  • Have heart disease, including irregular or rapid heartbeat
  • Have hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid)
  • Have high blood pressure
  • Have diabetes (Seritol may raise blood sugar levels)
  • Have low potassium levels
  • Currently have or have had tuberculosis or other lung infections
  • Experience blurred vision or other visual issues

Drug Interactions

Inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following:

  • Beta-blockers (e.g., atenolol, propranolol)
  • Antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole)
  • HIV medications (e.g., ritonavir, cobicistat-containing products)
  • Corticosteroids (oral or injectable, as they may affect adrenal gland function)
  • Diuretics (used for high blood pressure)
  • Other bronchodilators
  • Xanthines (e.g., theophylline, aminophylline)

The pharmaceutical product Seritol contains lactose.

  • Each unit of this medicinal product contains 12.5 mg of lactose monohydrate. How to use Seritol

Always take Seritol exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.

Do not stop taking this medicine or reduce the amount you take without telling your doctor.

Seritol must be inhaled into your lungs through your mouth.

You may not taste it or feel the powder in your mouth or airways, even if you use the inhaler correctly.

It is very important to follow your doctor’s instructions about how often and when to take your medicine. If you are using Seritol to treat asthma, your doctor will monitor your symptoms regularly.

Tell your doctor right away if your asthma or breathing gets worse. You may feel more wheezy, have more chest tightness, or need to use your quick-relief inhaler. If any of these occur, you should continue taking your medicine without increasing the frequency or amount. Your lung condition may get worse and you may become very ill. You should see a doctor if you need further treatment.

If you accidentally take more than the prescribed amount, tell your doctor or pharmacist.

If you forget to take Seritol

Do not double the dose to make up for a forgotten dose. Take your next dose at your usual time.
