Formodil is a dry powder inhalation therapy designed to improve airflow and ease breathing. It contains Formoterol Fumarate Dihydrate, a long-acting bronchodilator that helps open the airways in the lungs. This medication is primarily prescribed for:

  • Treating asthma in patients who are already using inhaled corticosteroids but still experience symptoms like wheezing
  • Preventing exercise-induced or cold-air-induced breathing issues, as well as those caused by allergies
  • Managing respiratory conditions in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic bronchitis, or emphysema

Contraindications to the use of the drug

  • If you are allergic to formoterol or lactose

Precautions

Drug Interactions

  • Antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin, azithromycin)
  • MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants (used for mood disorders)
  • Bronchodilators or sympathomimetics (similar to adrenaline, used for asthma or nasal congestion)
  • Anticholinergics (e.g., ipratropium bromide)
  • Theophylline or aminophylline (used for asthma)

General anesthetics, such as halothane (inform your doctor if undergoing surgery)

Surgery and tests

  • If you are taking Formodil and are planning surgery, tell your doctor because the medications you will be given during the procedure (inhalation anesthetics such as halothane) may affect your heart function.

Driving and using machinery

  • There have been reports of dizziness in some patients with a history of taking Formodyl. If any dizziness occurs, avoid driving or operating machinery.

Usage Guidelines

  • Always take Formodil exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully and ask them about how to use your inhaler.
  • Do not take more of this medicine than your doctor has told you.
  • Do not swallow the capsules. This medicine should be taken orally. This product should be inhaled using the inhaler provided with this product.

Possible Side Effects

Serious Side Effects:

  • Skin reactions such as rash, itching, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
  • Chest pain (possible angina symptoms) or irregular heartbeat

Common (up to 1 in 10):

  • Worsened asthma symptoms in children aged 5–12 years

Uncommon (up to 1 in 100):

  • Anxiety, nervousness, sleep disturbances
  • Muscle cramps, throat irritation, or dry mouth

Very Rare (up to 1 in 10,000):

  • Nausea, taste loss, or swelling in the limbs

Unknown Frequency:

  • High blood sugar levels, low potassium levels, high blood pressure, rash, or coughing

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

  • Consult your doctor before using Formodil if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding

  • Each capsule contains 25 mg of lactose monohydrate, which may cause allergic reactions in individuals sensitive to milk proteins.

Children’s Use

  • The drug is not recommended for use in children under 6 years of age.

  • Keep out of children’s reach.
